Otoplasty (Ear Pinning)
Dr Drielsma performs otoplasty through an incision behind the ear. However individual surgical requirements may require other incisions. Dr Drielsma uses both permanent and dissolving stitches. Although possible to do under local anesthetic, otoplasty, particularly in children, is usually done as a day stay procedure under a light anesthetic. Patients require a head bandage for a week.
When contemplating otoplasty for a child, the age depends on patient preference. Dr Drielsma commonly performs this surgery prior to school age (under 5). However many age groups request this surgery.
